The Benefits of Eggs and Oil for Hair

If you've got a cracked egg, don't throw it away! Save it for a hair mask. Please use free range eggs, so chickens get to run around freely without being trapped or forced into small cages.

What are the benefits of using eggs on hair? Hair is made up of 70 percent protein called Keratin, when your hair is dry, damaged and wispy, your hair is craving for a protein boost. Eggs contain various vitamins and minerals including high-quality protein and biotin that your hair will greatly benefit from. When a hair strand is damaged, egg protein helps to fill in those weak dry strands and split ends, making your hair feel stronger, smoother and conditioned.

Due to the amount of protein present in eggs, an egg hair mask should not be left in your hair for longer than 20 minutes, too much protein can actually damage your hair. It is also recommended to use an egg hair mask once every month.

I recommend using extra virgin olive oil whenever possible.

Extra virgin olive oil is extracted from olives using natural methods, it is not processed or mixed with other cheaper oils thus retaining its level of antioxidants. Olive oil is an excellent moisturiser for both hair and skin. It is rich in vitamin E, K, fatty acids, saturated fat, monounsaturated fats and omega 3 & 6. If you don't tend to include olive oil in your food, you should definitely start thinking of incorporating this oil as part of your diet due to its many health benefits. Its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce the risk of cancer, stroke, reduce joint pain, protects against heart disease, prevents blood clotting and weight gain and it even helps fight against Alzheimer's disease.

This amazing oil is the perfect hair mask for your hair if you suffer from an irritated itchy scalp, dandruff, dry ends, split ends, frizzy hair or unmanageable hair. You could either apply the oil cold or you could warm it up in the microwave as an intense moisturising hair mask.

Sunflower oil benefits for hair

Sunflower oil is high in vitamin E, it is an antioxidant that protects the body from harmful substances. Food high in antioxidants are known to prevent harmful radicals that are responsible for ageing. The vitamin E present in sunflower oil encourages healthy hair growth by reducing scalp inflammation and repairing damaged hair follicles.

Coconut oil benefits for hair

Coconut oil is solid at room temperature and will need to be melted before you apply it to your scalp and hair. Coconut oil contains a high content of saturated fats called lauric and capric acid, which help improve the quality of your hair.

Coconut oil is a wonderful natural oil to use as a conditioner and perfect for people who suffer from dry, irritated and dandruff prone scalps. It also contains antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties that help target fungus and bacteria that may be lurking on your scalp, making it the perfect natural oil to go to when treating irritated scalps.

Egg and Oil Hair Mask for Dry Damaged Hair

I used 3 eggs because they were all cracked and I didn't want them to go to waste. I have used half of the mixture and froze the rest for next time.

I did use a kitchen blender for a smooth finish, but you could use a fork or a whisk to mix the mixture if you don't have a blender to hand. Just apply the mixture to your scalp and the length of your hair. Cover with a shower cap and leave in for 20 minutes or so and then wash your hair as normal.

Will the egg hair mask turn into a scrambled egg if I use warm/hot water?

I have always experimented with natural ingredients so I thought i'll try this mask with warm-hot water to wash it off and see what happens... and yes, I had pieces of 'cooked' egg in my hair and it was a nightmare to get rid of. So, always remember to wash your hair with cold water.
